I started by importing my squirrel rig and an image plane that has bouncing reference as i find timing in animation difficult so this helped me get the foundation of my animation once i had my animation i opened the graph editor and adjusted the Y translate so that i could use the handle to make the bouncing motion much more natural and as if it has actual weight to the bounces. After i had that i went through again but using the top hand and leaned it forward at certain points so that it would like the squirrel is using itself to move it self forward with each jump. The next pass was making the tail move and open when in the air but when it lands i had the tail contract/curl up to show the energy from the landing being distributed through the squirrels body.
