Scheduling is a paramount part of making sure large teams are able to meet the deadline whilst also delivering high quality shots. The benefits that scheduling offers are being able to allocate certain tasks to each artist you think would be best for the task at hand. It also allows for much greater planning to go into shots or set pieces as communication is much easier to help figure out what your targets are as a team. Supervisors are probably much more efficient due to software's like Autodesk shotgun as they can get the shots from team members and quickly review it and send back notes to help iterate and improve upon the previous version. Shotgun allows to see who is working on what and what stage they are on and then who that goes to e.g. models to texture artists who can keep track of the very critical deadlines.
