Modelling a lens cap.

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

The first step was taking my photo reference in to photoshop and doing a topology draw over of the lens cap from both a front and back perspective. As this is quite a complex model it was key i managed to properly identify what base primitives i should use to build out my shape. For the main body of the piece i was thinking either using an extruded plane or half a cylinder which i scale certain areas, i'll most likely try both in Maya and see which works best in terms of topology and polygon count. I was thinking making a Trapezoid shape for the two separate piece which i extrude inwards and then bevel.
