The first generation

the odyssey


second generation

the Atari

purchases dropped due to the ET game which is the worst game ever created it had poor marketing and had loads of copy left and caused a industry crash.


3rd generation

Nintendo created their own system but marketed it as a toy with R.O.B, Laser gun. It was a cultural phenomenon. Sega master system had a rivalry with Nintendo.


4th generation

Sonic became a huge part of the Sega genesis brand.

The super Nintendo improved upon the first system and they establish franchises.


5th generation

Nintendo 64 lost to Sony's PlayStation but had great launch games.

The PlayStation and Sony went all out on marketing.

people started to form attachments to the games.


6th generation

The dream cast lost support from EA, Sega left hardware and became more software based.

The PlayStation 2 used CD's which were becoming more popular and they started making exclusives

Microsoft released the Xbox and took a hit but they had with games like fable, halo and knights of the old republic which were popular exclusives


7th generation

Xbox 360 released a year earlier than the ps3 and people went to it. Xbox live made online play popular. Achievements incentivized play.

After a slow start with technology that wasn't really accessible people didn't buy it, but towards the end it started to pick up.

The Wii was a sleeper hit and they had supply problems as they were in such high demand.

It became a generation of entertainment.


8th generation

The Wii U was a failure.

Xbox vs PlayStation rivalry picked up however in reality the consoles were quite similar the main thing was the exclusives that they had to offer.
