Images and Sounds for imagine worlds

For images and Sounds for imagine worlds the brief asks that we must create an environment inside unreal, building my world with either assets I've modelled myself or made using photogrammetry and use diegetic and non-diegetic sound to enhance the imagine world.

Mood board

This was the mood board that i assembled from my base idea before i went to the concept art stage as i wanted to try and figure the colors and composition as this would make it much easier for me to figure this out in my final composition.

Concept art

After brain storming for possible settings for this project i ended up picking a skyscraper with bamboo scaffolding. I chose this because i think that i could build a nice atmosphere with this environment with both the visuals and sound.

In order to make these i used a varying range of method's in order to do so. For the first and third i used a random picture of a building that had a perspective that i liked and then i used that to inform the rest of the image. For the second i created the building and the bamboo structure separately and went over them in photoshop and after i had a base for the perspective i started drawing free hands and adding details.

Concepting was really nice as i like drawing and now i have a proper idea for the scene that im going to create as i now think some flowing cloth and sound building emitting light will really help elevate the scene.

Drawing

In order to be able to properly figure out my perspective I used a few cubes in blender so that I would have an outline for when i get into photoshop. Once in photoshop i drew around the outlines so that then I could start drawing the windows as after I started coloring in the windows and rest of the image. To get the glow around the windows that have their lights on I duplicated the layers twice on one i changed the exposure and then on the other i smeared around the window set the layer to screen and dropped the opacity i also used a similar method for the fog. For the night sky i just used some noise to emulate starts

Compositing

In photoshop i organized my layers and then dropped my PSD file into nuke and in the node options i clicked on the breakout layers option and then added a card to all of the layers that was generated and plugged those into a scene and scanline renderer node so that i can work with these layers in 3D space i separated the FG and BG so that when i animate my camera i get that parallax effect. A few final touches that i added was some firework stock footage on a card in the background and defocused it another thing that i did was adding and animating a noise node and then rotoing the node in the shape of the fog to add some movement to the scene.

Sound.

Once I've rendered i took the render into premier pro and started to break down the location of my scene and what is and would be in it. For non diegetic sound i used a piano on garage band to give me an ambient hum. I looked for diegetic sounds online that would correspond with the scene so things like cars going by or crowds cheering and the sound of fireworks. I also animated a helicopter sound moving left to right in speakers/headphones. All of these things helped create some form of story for the world that this piece is set in.

Final piece.
